Moroccan jurist appointed member of Arab journalists' commission

The Arab Journalists Union has named Moroccan jurist and former Justice Minister Alami Machichi as a member of the union's permanent commission of liberties.
The commission, which held its first meeting in Cairo Saturday, is intended to defend the freedom of press and opinion in Arab states.
The commission, comprising 17 members from 14 Arab states, receives complaints made by Arab journalists and writers over breaches of rights and extends support to journalists in cases of extortion.
