Morocco earmarks $4 million to compensate arbitrary detention victims

The Moroccan government has disbursed a provisional budget of $4 million (40 million dirhams) to compensate victims of arbitrary detention, Driss Dahhak, chairman of the Moroccan human rights advisory council (CCDH) announced over the weekend.

The government has paid the CCDH a budget of 40 million DH to compensate these victims and the first batch will receive their checks this Monday, he told MAP as the international workshop of national human rights protection and promotion institutions wound up on Saturday in Rabat.

This is a provisional compensation that will enable recipients solve their health problems and meet most urgent needs, he explained, adding that they will receive "very shortly" the total indemnity.
