World Bank denies report on corruption in Egypt
Egypt-World Bank, Economics, 4/17/2000

Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said he received a decisive reply from the World Bank denying that it issued any report on corruption in Egypt.

Ebeid examined closely a story published by an Egyptian partisan newspaper that the WB issued a report on corruption cases in Egypt.

Out of his Keenness on the truth of the story, Ebeid sent a letter to the WB President asking him for an official copy of this alleged report.

On his part, the President of the WB explained that the report printed by the Egyptian newspaper was built on information included in a book prepared by the Egyptian Economic Studies Center financed by the WB to be submitted to the Mediterranean Development Forum in 1998.

The WB denied its responsibility for this book and affirmed the responsibility of the writer, not the WB or any affiliated body, an official Egyptian statement reported.
