Mubarak, Musharraf discuss bilateral relations
Egypt-Pakistan, Politics, 4/17/2000

In the context of the intensive political and diplomatic activity witnessed by Egypt this week, President Mubarak received General Pervez Musharraf, Chief of Executive Authority in Pakistan, who arrived in Cairo on a three- day official visit.

Talks between the two leaders tackled relations between Egypt and Pakistan, the developments of the peace process, the situation in the sub-Indian continent mainly India-Pakistan relations, the issue of Kashmir and the results of the Summit of the 77-Countries which was attended by Musharraf in the Cuban capital of Havana before his arrival in Cairo.

In an airport statement upon arrival, General Musharraf expressed his pleasure to visit Egypt, adding he was impressed by the warm welcome accorded to him.

He said he was looking forward to his talks with President Mubarak on bilateral, regional and international issues, adding Pakistan pins much hope on relations with Egypt and appreciates Egypt's vital role in building peace and stability in the Middle East.

He said relations between Egypt and Pakistan are deeply rooted as both share one religion, values and interests.

For this reason, he said it is natural that they seek to enhance bilateral relations in the economic field.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistani Embassy in Cairo, expanding cooperation between the two countries would enhance their capability to confront challenges given the important role which characterizes both countries.
