Morocco's tourism activity increased in 1999
Morocco, Economics, 4/15/2000

Morocco's tourism activity increased by 18 % in 1999 and tourism receipts reached $ 1.93 billion. The figures were disclosed by Moroccan minister of tourism, Hassan Sebbar in an interview with local daily Le Quotidien du Maroc.

Some 2,350,000 tourists visited the country in 1999 and tourism activity has increased in the first quarter of year 2000 by 20%, Sebbar said without disclosing the amount of revenues nor the number of tourists during this quarter.

Morocco has yet to increase his 90,000 bed capacity, which is far behind Tunisia's 200,000 beds and Spanish Canary Islands' 350,000 beds, the daily stated.

A number of agreements were signed recently with foreign operators to increase Morocco's bed capacity by 20,000 additional beds, Sebbar said.
