Jordan imports gazelles from Australia to establish a natural protectorate
Jordan-Australia, Environment, 4/14/2000
Jordan imported a group of Australian gazelles to establish a multipurpose natural protectorate in the Jordanian area of Zorba, as 110 gazelles-- similar to the extinct Arab species-- arrived in Jordan to be raised and to encourage the studies and research concerning these animals in addition to developing the economic and social life in the area.
A statement issued by the Jordanian embassy in Cairo said this protectorate is under the auspices of King Abdullah II and that he issued the decision to turn this area into a natural protectorate.
