Chretien in Amman today

It was announced in Amman on Thursday that Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien will arrive in Amman this afternoon in a visit to Jordan which will last for three days.

During his visit the Canadian premier will meet with Jordan's King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh and high-ranking Jordanian officials. Talks will deal with the Middle East peace process and means of strengthening relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Chretien denied, in a statement circulated on Thursday by the Canadian embassy in Amman, statements that quoted him as sayint that he had agreed to settle Palestinian refugees in Canada. He stressed, according to the statement, that the problem of the Palestinian refugees should settled through sides concerned in the Middle East.

Worthy mentioning, during his visit to Jordan, Chretien will visit a camp for Palestinian refugees near Jarash, in northern Jordan.
