French republic ombudsman meets Moroccan speaker
Morocco-France, Politics, 4/13/2000

The French republic ombudsman, Bernard Stasi, currently on a two-day-visit to Morocco, held talks in Rabat Wednesday with Senate speaker Mohamed Jalal Essaid.

The two sides dealt with questions concerning the Moroccan community in France and the role to be played by the mediatory institution to remove difficulties faced by the members of the community.

Talks also covered Morocco's project to set up a mediatory institution.

Moroccan premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi had announced in a statement before the parliament last January that Morocco would set up, in the course of year 2000, an independent institution similar to the mediatory body in some European countries.

The ombudsman receives and investigates complaints by individuals against abuses or unwarranted acts of public officials and helps achieve equitable settlements.
