Iran releases 2,000 Iraqi prisoners, increased call to lift sanctions on Iraq

The general secretariat of the international federation for the Arab workers trade union has condemned the continued siege imposed on Iraq and called for halting the British-American aggressions against the Iraqi people.

In a statement released on Wednesday the secretariat denounced the British and American aggressions of April 6 which claimed the lives of 14 Iraqi civilians and wounded another 19.

The statement also urged the UN and regional and international humanitarian organizations to interfere to stop these aggressions and to work to lift the sanctions and pressure the US and British governments to this end.

Meanwhile, some 2000 Iraqi prisoners of war have returned to Iraq through Khosroy border center during the past four days.

Iran had taken a decision to unilaterally release all Iraqi prisoners held by it.

Meanwhile, a caravan from Romania to express solidarity with the people of Iraq's people against the sanctions imposed for 10 years arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday.

The caravan, which started its trip from in front of the Iraqi embassy in Bucharest on April 8 and entered the Iraqi territories by land, includes 11 political and party figures in Romania.

Members of the caravan will hold talks with the Iraqi officials dealing with the development of relations between Iraq and the UN Security Council.
