WB participates in 5 economic Programs
Egypt-World Bank, Economics, 4/12/2000

Prime Minister Atef Ebeid met with the World Bank delegation, its resident representative in Egypt Khaled Ikram and Minister of Environment Nadia Makram Ebeid.

Following the meeting, Ebeid said the WB participates with Egypt in implementing 5 important economic programs aiming at boosting Egypt's exports and its share of the world trade.

On her part, the Minister said that she reviewed with the delegation the Egyptian experiment in treating and recycling industrial and household waste, with a review to protecting the environment.

She added that they also dwelt on efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to safeguard natural and environmental resources as well as the Egyptian experiment in turning many industrial zones into environment-friendly cities.

Emerging from the meeting, the Minister recalled tackling with the IBRD as well as possible WB financial and technical aid to a number of environment projects in Egypt.

She added that talks took up the environment role Egypt can play in the region taking into consideration its scientific and practical expertise.

The WB official, on her part, praised the enormous efforts exerted by the Egyptian government in the field of environment preservation, especially the application of the articles of 1994's environment law.

The guest also reiterated the WB keenness on fostering cooperation with Egypt especially with regard to solid waste management.
