Saudi minister criticizes British papers campaign on human rights in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia-UK, Politics, 4/12/2000
Saudi Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz has criticized as "a fabricated campaign by certain British papers and certain sides which claim themselves as human rights patrons" and called on those who doubt human rights in Saudi Arabia to visit it so as to learn himself about the heart of the matter.
In a speech he delivered during a round of talks he held on Monday evening with British Defense Minister Geoffery Hoon in Jeddah, Prince Sultan stressed that this campaign does not affect the relations between Saudi Arabia and Britain. He said, "We have six million non-Saudis who work in Saudi Arabia," and that they are enjoying all their rights.
What has been stated about Saudi Arabia concerning human rights is but a hatred to ties of friendship Saudi Arabia hold with several countries in the world.
Prince Sultan commended the level of relations between Saudi Arabia and Britain and described them as old and strong, adding, "Nothing will be changed in these relations with the change of ministries."
