Seminar on rural development in Mediterranean opens in Marrakech

A seminar on "new strategies for a rural development in the Mediterranean countries" opened Monday in Marrakech to debate development problems in rural areas in the Mediterranean and new strategies to ensure a lasting rural development.

The meeting will look into the current status of Mediterranean rural areas, new definitions of the rural development concept in an international context characterized by globalization and setting up of a Euro-Mediterranean free-zone by the year 2010.

Participants will draw up a platform of a declaration on rural development in the Mediterranean.

The meeting is initiated by the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the international center of Mediterranean high agricultural studies.
