Lebanese Premier: Lebanon does not trust Israeli intentions
Lebanon, Politics, 4/11/2000
Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss on Monday in Beirut asserted continued cooperation with Syria through continued consultations between officials from the two countries.
During Monday's meeting with several Lebanese members of parliament, al-Hoss stressed the current critical phase and the need to deal with this phase cautiously in light of the Israeli proposals towards south Lebanon and the situation in the region.
He remarked that Lebanon welcomed the principle of Israel's withdrawal from south Lebanon, but it does not trust the Israeli intentions.
He asserted the unity of the Lebanese official position in dealing with the coming phase and its developments, especially toward unconditional implementation of UN resolution 425. Al-Hoss continued that he prefers an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan in the course of a comprehensive agreement that organizes this withdrawal and draws up the necessary solution for certain pending issues, including the question of the Palestinian refugees.
