Report: Egyptian mediation between Syria and Israel

The Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa quoted an Egyptian diplomatic source as saying on Monday that Cairo is carrying out a mediation role to bring views together between Syria and Israel.

The source added that an Egyptian delegate was scheduled to have left Cairo on Monday for Israel to convey an Egyptian proposal concerning the main point of difference between Syria and Israel, which is the lake of Tiberies, in order to discuss this matter with Israeli Prime Pinister Ehud Barak and his aides before Barak's scheduled visit to Cairo today.

The source added that it is evident that these proposals were conveyed to Syria and that of the proposals were agreed upon by the two sides, Syrian- Israeli peace negotiations would be resumed within days.
