Fifty people arrested for throwing stones at vehicles
Morocco, Local, 4/10/2000

Fifty young people were arrested Sunday after they demonstrated and threw stones at passing vehicles on the Rabat-Kenitra national road near the Sidi Taybi rural community.

A crowd of 450 youngsters gathered early in the afternoon on the road to stop traffic and when police forces tried to clear the way, they dispersed throwing stones and damaging police cars and a civil protection ambulance. Normal traffic was restored by 6:30 pm local time.

The youth arrested were manipulated by people who were not authorized to build, illegally, houses on collective coastal land and part of a natural reserve.
