Morocco urges non-aligned movement to pressure Israel honor its commitments
Morocco, Politics, 4/10/2000
Morocco has urged the Non-Aligned Movement to pressure Israel to abide by U.N resolutions and live up to the commitments it made under the accords it signed with the Palestinian government.
The call was made by Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, before the 13th ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement convened in the northwestern Columbian city of Cartagena over the weekend.
Benaissa renewed Morocco's commitment to a peaceful settlement to the Middle East conflict and attachment to the land for peace principle.
He likewise renewed Morocco's backing to the struggle waged by Syria and Lebanon to recover sovereignty over their Israeli-occupied territories.
Touching on the situation of the Iraqi People that he described as "tragic" in view of the embargo, Benaissa said Morocco, for which Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity are fundamental to the stability of the region, backs all international efforts meant to lift the embargo on Baghdad, in the frame of a solution conform to international legality.
