Italian airplane forced to land at Jordanian military base
Jordan, Politics, 4/7/2000
A Jordanian official statement said that an Italian airplane coming from Iraq was forced to landing at a Jordanian military base Wednesday for flying without a license, adding that Claudio Gastania, captain of the airplane, was kept to be investigated on charge of violating Jordanian airspace without official permission and jeopardizing civil aviation.
The statement added that the investigation includes other charges like violating international law and misleading, as the pilot gave false instructions about his trip's course that was to Amman - Damascus - Amman and not Amman - Baghdad on his way to Iraq on last Monday.
A Jordanian legal source said the Jordanian civil aviation has the right to try the Italian pilot due to these charges, whose penalty varies between a fine determined by the judiciary and imprisonment.
