Morocco, Japan to draw up plan on flood prevention

Japan is conducting, in cooperation with the Moroccan government, a study which will allow to draw up a plan on the system of forecast and prevention of floods in the Moroccan Atlas mountains.
The system is meant to reinforce existing systems and set up performing mechanisms to ensure population and environment protection against natural disasters.
The study will be conducted over 24 months by a Japanese team which will carry out different investigations on the ground and draw up an adequate plan.
The study, sponsored by the Japanese international development agency, will also cover Tensift region (near Marrakesh), an area known for its climate fluctuations leading sometimes to devastating floods.
