Maroc-Telecom passed agreement to sell Internet packs
Morocco, Business, 4/7/2000
Maroc-Telecom passed Wednesday an agreement with computer and consumer-credit firms to provide Internet packs.
The move is meant to promote Internet use and make it available for lower layers of society, partners said, adding packs soon to be available include a personal computer, a program and 1-3 year access to the Internet.
A recent on-line survey showed that nearly 87.2% of Moroccan Internet users are university graduates or are still attending university.
Moroccan Internet surfers are generally young people aged between 21 and 25, mostly men (70% out of the polled sample, while women represent 30%) and single (66%), shows the survey conducted by "IEC Marketing" and published by Moroccan weekly "La Nouvelle Tribune" last February.
Some 80% of Internet surfers are based in the center of the country against 11% in the south and 9% in the north. The city of Casablanca concentrates the highest number of Internet surfers followed by Rabat, El Jadida, Sale and Laayoune.
Surfing mainly takes place in the cybercafes, followed by workplace and school.
