Syria celebrates 53rd foundation anniversary of the ruling Baath Party

Syria today celebrates the 53rd anniversary of the foundation of the Baath Party, which was declared on April 7, 1947.

The party's first constituent conference which was held at the Summer's al-Rashid Cafe on May 29 Street in Damascus, on April 7, 1947 approved several principles. The third article of the Baath Party's foreign policy states the following: The Arabs are always in the line of freedom and progressiveness and against colonialism and backwardness in the world.

Regarding the party's economic policy, the conferees said that the economic wealth in the Arab homeland is the property of the Arab nation and that the current distribution of wealth in the Arab states is unfair, and therefore this distribution has to be reconsidered and to be distributed among citizens on equal footing.

Article five of the Baath Party's principles states that establishment of public interests, nature's main resources and the means of production are owned by the nation and are directly run by the state. The conferees also approved small agricultural and industrial properties.

Article 10 stated the establishment of one national bank which determines the currency which backs the national production.

However, marking this occasion festivities have been carried out all over the Syrian provinces and several economic and services projects were inaugurated or foundation stones were laid for them.
