Saudi Arabia-Australia, Politics, 4/7/2000
The Emir of Riyadh district, Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, on Thursday opened the new premises for the Saudi embassy in Canberra, in the presence of Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.
Upon his arrival at the embassy, Prince Salman was welcomed by the Saudi ambassador to Australia, Muhammad al-Hujeilan, and the embassy staff.
After the inauguration ceremony, Prince Salman and Downer saw an archaeological exposition for artifacts representing all areas of the kingdom.
In a speech he delivered the Australian foreign minister expressed his hope that this visit will be fruitful for the welfare of the two countries, saying that it was "a good opportunity during which we reviewed with Prince Sultan the volume of trade, the investment opportunities as well as bilateral relations."
Downer said that his country has special interests in the stability of the Middle East, noting the role Australia has taken towards the liberation of Kuwait, noting that his country spared no efforts for the success of peace initiatives in the Middle East.
