King Mohammed congratulates Muslim leaders on new Hijra year
Morocco, Religion, 4/6/2000
King Mohammed VI on Friday sent a congratulations message to the leaders of the Islamic world on the advent of the new Hijra year 1421.
The king's message carried best wishes of health and happiness to the Muslim leaders and of progress and prosperity to their peoples.
The Muslim calendar starts with the Exodus of prophet Mohammed from Mecca to Medina (Saudi Arabia) to escape the repression of the pagans. The Exodus marked a starting point for the radiance of Islam and Muslims throughout the world.
King Mohammed VI stressed that the new year provides opportunity for Muslims to look for inspiration from the march of Islam.
He underlined that the renaissance of the Muslim world requires unity, solidarity, coordination and complementarity as well as the exploitation of the advantages offered to the Islamic countries, such as neighborliness and the availability of material and human resources.
Such a divine prodigality deserves to be rationally exploited to erase the distorted image some hostile media give to Islam and Muslims and to take up the challenges, including the liberation of the occupied territories and on top of them al-Quds Asharif (Holy Jerusalem), cradle of the first kibla and third holy mosque, he said.
