Cabinet forms a group of action to follow up outcome of Summit

The cabinet, in its meeting yesterday under Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, probed a report on the recent Africa-Europe Summit which wound up in Cairo last Tuesday.
The cabinet has expressed its appreciation for the big success realized by the visit of President Hosni Mubarak to the United States and the results realized on the political, economic and scientific area.
The cabinet also lauded the results of the Africa-Europe summit which ended its meetings in Cairo Tuesday.
Minister of Information Safwat a1 Sherif said the cabinet, meeting Wednesday, pointed out that President Mubarak expressed, during his US visit, Egypt's perspective towards the middle east issue and his adherence to Arab rights as a means of realizing overall and just peace to bring about stability and security in the area and raise the standard of living of its peoples, foremost among which are the Egyptian people.
The Minister of Information said that discussions of the cabinet showed understanding and appreciation of the constructive ideas, dealing with regional and international issues, which were presented by President Mubarak in his dialogues with American leaders, all institutions and senior officials to bring about a qualitative stride in the strategic and international relations and to deal with contemporary issues, placing the Egyptian people in the forefront, the pride of president Mubarak in the Egyptian decision and respect of national will.
Minister of Information said the cabinet stressed the international appreciation of President Mubarak who receives the respect of world leaders.
The president's presence was prominent at the Africa-Europe Summit Egypt has laid down the first stone, in the new century, to build an African-European partnership in the interest of the coming generations.
The Africa-Europe Summit, crystallized for the first time, dialogue between north and south to become a reality which has its mechanisms and will have positive results in the near future in addition to continued cooperation for the sake of coming c generations, the Minister said.
The minister of information said the cabinet adopted several decisions to follow up and capitalize on the results of President Mubarak's visit to the United States, on all political axes, economic, technological, education and scientific research cooperation and drawing up timetables for this, particularly in the field of technology, in addition to a plan to benefit from Egyptian minds abroad and maintaining continued contact with the Egyptian communities abroad.
The Minister of Information said that, in the light of discussions and reports presented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy, Finance and Information on details of the talk and their results the following decisions were taken: first: Egypt will continue, under the leadership of President Mubarak, to seek to activate the peace process in the Middle East and put it back on the right track through coordination and cooperation with all parties and the United States to realize stability in the area within the framework of adherence to legitimate Arab rights.
Second: to ask the economic group to follow up results of economic and financial talks, and notably attracting American investments and multinational companies, increase the volume of Egyptian exports, develop goods with a comparative edge which are suitable for the American market and to make preparations for multilateral dialogue on the free trade agreement.
Third: to ask the economic group to follow up programs to use and transfer the technological base and lay down priorities for this. The group includes the Ministers of Communication, Military Production, Economy and Finance.
Fourth: to set up a working group to contact Egyptian communities abroad to benefit from Egyptian minds and their potentials in addition to establishing a link between Egyptian expatriates and their country. The group includes the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Information, Culture, Manpower and Economy.
Fifth: to set up a political and economic working group on which will be represented the ministries concerned, under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to follow up decisions of the Africa-Europe summit and its mechanisms.
Prime Minister Ebeid said capitalizing on the results is a natural result of the distinguished relations between President Mubarak and world leaders which add and open new doors, at the political and economic levels, in the interest of national action. the Prime Minister said the Cabinet is keen to maximize the results by following up their implementation.
Ebeid said the Organization of the Africa-Europe conference in Egypt was characterized by international performance, from the point of view of organization, preparation and management, and was the climax of cooperation among the departments at the presidency and the foreign ministry in addition to the Ministries of Interior, Information and Communication which gave a good image to the world.
Convening the Africa-Europe summit, for the first time, in Egypt is a Precedent which has its significance and reflects Egypt's weight and role.
Minister of Information said the cabinet reviewed a report on a tripartite meeting which was held on the sidelines of the Africa-Europe summit, between President Mubarak, Leader of the Libyan Revolution colonel Moammar Gaddafi and Sudanese President Omar Bashir.
The meeting laid stress on the activation of the Egyptian-Libyan initiative on Sudan, adopting the bases of national conciliation in addition to bilateral relations among the sisterly countries.
The cabinet approved the plan of economic and social development for fiscal 2000/2001. the minister of information said.
Al Sherif said that government investments amount to 24 billion pounds, including 7 billion and 741 million pounds for government projects, 6 billion and 551 million pounds for projects of economic bodies and 6 billion and 207 million pounds for projects of government agencies.
The Minister said that Prime Minister pointed out that investment of the government and economic bodies, in the new plan take into consideration expansion and rejuvenation at 13.2 per cent of investments of the plan, 75.7 per cent to complete projects and 11.2 per cent for replacements.
