Yemeni opposition calls for withdrawing confidence from government over Israeli delegation visit
Yemen-Israel, Politics, 4/6/2000

The Yemeni opposition on Wednesday called on the parliament to withdraw its confidence from the Yemeni government in protest of the visit recently held by Israeli tourists to Yemen.

The council in charge of coordinating the opposition, including five parties, mainly the Yemeni Socialist Party, warned in a statement released on Wednesday that the authorities proceeded with a policy which reveals a state of weakness and surrender.

The statement called on the Yemeni government to apologize to the Arab and Islamic states over receiving groups of Israeli tourists and called on the parliament to carry out its due role in trying those who are responsible for the normalization.

Some 12 Israelis of Yemeni origin have recently visited Yemen for several days, provided with temporary travel documents they obtained from the Yemeni consulate at the UN.

Meanwhile, Oman has denied reports that quoted it as saying it will host the meeting of the working groups on water resources of the multilateral talks on the Middle East. The Gulf News Agency quoted an official at the Omani Foreign Ministry saying on Monday that Oman is still ready to host this meeting at the proper time.
