Morocco-born Belgian MPs propose setting up of Euro-Arab cultural center in Brussels
Morocco-European Union, Politics, 4/5/2000
A visiting delegation of Morocco-born Belgian parliamentarians proposed the setting up of a Euro-Arab cultural center in Brussels to promote Arab culture in the European capital. The delegation members, who made the proposal at a meeting in Rabat Tuesday with Minister of cultural affairs, Mohamed Al Achaari, underscored the role of culture in social integration.
The project is likely to foster dialogue and initiate a multi-dimension cooperation and exchange between the Moroccans settled in Belgium and their motherland and will help them assert their Moroccan cultural identity, Al Achaari said, voicing his department's determination to contribute to the project.
The delegation of Morocco-born Belgian parliamentarians that started a five-day visit to Morocco Sunday conferred with several Moroccan officials on Moroccan-Belgian cooperation, the political situation in Morocco, the democratization process in the kingdom, and the progress scored in matters of human rights promotion.
Talks also covered a set of development and social issues and the visiting MPs were called to uphold Morocco's causes, mainly that of territorial integrity, and to foil the maneuvers hatched by the kingdom's enemies. They were also called to upgrade Morocco's relations with the European Union.
