Parliament for children in the Arab states

In a rare type of event in the Arab states, Yemen has announced parliamentary elections to be especially conducted for children in the premises of Sanaa province on April 12.
The activists committee in charge of defending human rights and human rights said that 20,000 students in basic learning stage will elect the children's parliament by direct and free voting and that this parliament is to be omposed of 2,000 members and with the participation of 31 schools in Sanaa.
The sources said the first session of the children's parliament will be on April 27 in the presence of the speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, Sheikh Abdullah al-Ahmar, who showed great backing to this children parliament.
The sources continued that the parliament will elect a speaker and three deputies and permanent committees from its members and that several sessions will be held at the hall of the parliament in Sanaa, concentrating on matters relating to children's rights and means of developing a spirit of democracy among children.
The sources indicated that the voting process will be carried out under the supervision of the higher committee for elections.
