Strike obstructs aviation movement in Algerian airport
Algeria, Economics, 4/4/2000
Algerian officials said that air traffic controllers obstructed many flights in Algeria's main airport due to a strike to demand increases in salaries.
A spokesman for the airport said at least six trips were delayed yesterday morning in Algeria's airport due to the air traffic controllers' strike, saying that 50 trips were delayed between 3 to 6 hours yesterday including 20 international trips.
A spokesman for the employees' union said they allowed a trip every 30 minutes instead of six on average on normal days and that nearly 350 air controllers will participate in obstructing the work till the authorities accept their demands for an increase in salaries and improved working conditions.
