Palestinian accusation that Israel obstructs Palestinian mail to the Arab states
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/4/2000
Zahair El-Laham, the undersecretary of the Palestinian mail and communications ministry, accused Israel of placing obstacles in front of opening the mail service between the Palestinian self-rule territories and neighboring Arab states, especially Egypt.
In statements to ArabicNews.com, Laham said the Israelis' domination of the passages, especially Rafah passage between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, allows the Israeli authorities to obstruct the mail and packages for a very long period, which damages them.
Laham hailed the cooperation of the Egyptian mail authorities with the Palestinian Authority, saying that there is an agreement between the Egyptian post and its Palestinian counterpart that will be carried out as soon as the passages are opened according to the frame of the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis during the coming period.
Laham, who is concluding his visit to Cairo today, said, "There are many other agreements in the postal field, communications and the computer software that will be carried out soon between Egypt and Palestine."
