Morocco relies on Morocco-born European parliamentarians to uphold its causes and upgrade its relations with the European Union.

The statement was made in Rabat Monday by first vice-speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdelaziz Alaoui Hafidi, at a meeting with a visiting delegation of Morocco-born Belgian parliamentarians.

Hafidi called the Belgian MPs (members of Parliament) to spare no effort to defend Morocco's causes, mainly that of territorial integrity, and to foil the maneuvers hatched by the kingdom's enemies.

The visiting MPs, who were briefed on the political situation in Morocco and on the functioning of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament called for the setting up of an inter-parliamentary action group to consolidate relations between the Moroccan and Belgian legislative institutions.

The twinning of Rabat and Belgian cities was also discussed.

The Belgian delegation, which started the five-day visit to Morocco Sunday, is to confer with several cabinet members as well as with executives of a number of NGOs, members of the employers' association CGEM and officials of the Hassan II foundation for Moroccan expatriates.
