Al-Hoss heads to Damascus
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 4/3/2000
Lebanese Prime Minister Selim al-Hoss left Lebanon today, heading to Damascus to hold talks with Syrian officials concerning the alleged Israeli withdrawal in July.
Lebanon said it wants the withdrawal to be part of a comprehensive peace process that includes an agreement with Syria, yet the Syrian - Israeli talks are halted due to a dispute concerning conditions for the Israeli withdrawal from the Golan.
The Syrian foreign minister denied what was said that Syrian troops could replace the Israeli troops which will withdraw from south Lebanon, saying "We will be positive in dealing with what serve the just, comprehensive and real peace with Syria and Lebanon according to the known stability."
