Human rights protection in Sudan
Sudan-UN, Politics, 4/3/2000
An official at the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said the Sudanese government agreed to appoint a human rights consultant at the UN for one year.
The director of human rights department at the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, Sirajeddine Hamid, told the Sudanese paper "al-Sahafi al-Dawli" that Sudan and the UN last Wednesday signed an agreement in this regard. He added that this agreement calls for appointing a consultant for one year in order to help the Sudanese authorities in human rights protection.
The same source added that the consultant will assume his responsibilities at the premises of the UN Development Program in Khartoum.
This consultant will submit after one year his report to the UN human rights committee and to the Sudanese authorities, together with his own proposals to this effect.
