US ambassador states Israel's implementation of UN resolution 425
Lebanon-Israel-USA, Politics, 4/1/2000
The London-based al-Hayat daily quoted Lebanese official sources as saying that the US ambassador to Lebanon David Satterfield informed high ranking Lebanese officials that Israel intends to withdraw from South Lebanon in implementation of UN security council resolution no 425 and its appendix no. 426.
The sources added that Satterfield who informed this decision to the Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss upon meeting to hand over a message from Albright over the results of the Geneva Summit and Washington's efforts to resume the peace process, did not indicate steps to be carried out by Israel on the diplomatic level in preparation for withdrawal.
The sources told the paper that it is the first time in which Washington informed Lebanon officially that Israel will carry out its withdrawal it intended to make from Lebanon.
On the Geneva summit, the sources said that Albright's message to al-Hoss said that the main reason of disagreement was that President Clinton conveyed Israeli proposals over border demarcation that do not comply with Syria's demands for an Israeli pullout until June 4, 1967 border lines.
