Ertirean delegation ends visit to Sudan
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 3/31/2000

A high-ranking Eritrean delegation ended its visit to Khartoum to revitalize steps toward national rapport and political reconciliation among the Sudanese factions, the opposition and the government.

The delegation headed by Eritrean Foreign Minister Haile Weldensae met with Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir and Hassan Turabi, secretary general of the ruling National Congress party.

Khartoum and Asmara did not issue any statements about the visit, but it comes as a push for the relations between the two countries. Sudanese sources stated that the visit is to forward steps toward national rapport and political reconciliation, especially as Eritrea still keeps tight relations with the Sudanese opposition coalition, which works under the name of the National Democratic Allaince.

The opposition still commits assaults on the Sudanese - Eritrean borders, which cause embarrassments for the Eritrean government in its attempt to improve its relations with Sudan.
