Foreign investment of one billion LE in supermarkets in Egypt
Egypt-International, Business, 3/31/2000

The French Carrefour and German Metro companies started studying the Egyptian market concerning supermarkets after the success of the British Sainsbury company in entering the Egyptian market quickly.

ArabicNews.com learned that Metro's decision to work in Egypt came during the German president's recent visit to Egypt with German businessmen, among whom were representatives of Metro, while the French Carrefour's delegation is due to visit Cairo to make the company's work plan in association with the Egyptian Ministry of Supply.

An Egyptian source stated that Carrefour and Metro are planning to establish a series of large supermarkets in areas of Cairo's suburbs and not amid the Egyptian capital which suffers from traffic problems. The source added that the two companies are expected to invest nearly one billion L.E in the first stages of working in the Egyptian market.
