Yemeni Socialist Party denies accusations addressed to it
Yemen, Politics, 3/31/2000
The opposition Yemeni Socialist Party has criticized what it described as criticism made against it by the internal and external media with the objective of defaming it.
In a statement the party's political bureau said that such criticism made by the Yemeni authorities violates freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and endangers the Socialist Party and the Yemeni opposition as a whole.
The statement considered the criticism made against it by the Yemeni authorities as being made against a wide strata of Yemeni society which it said the Socialist Party embodies their interests and ambitions under the state's monopoly of all media financed by the people.
The statement also denied that the Socialist Party is responsibile for the failure of the government to settle the security conditions and confront the acts of kidnapping.
The statement called on the government not to hold others responsible for the failure to fight corruption and at the same time to stop the policy of making the people poor.
