Lebanese premier and the Geneva summit
Lebanon, Politics, 3/31/2000
Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss has stated that there are no definite results for the Geneva summit that took place on Sunday between Syrian Prsident Hafez al-Assad and US President Bill Clinton. He ruled out describing this summit as a failure or a success or between the two.
In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Beiraq, al-Hoss added that points of differences between Syria and Israel concentrate on three issues: "The east of the Tabaraya lake, security arrangements and the early warning station in Jabal al-Sheikh.
Al-Hoss expected that US efforts will be made to eliminate obstacles and minimize points of difference, asserting that these US efforts will not be declared.
He described statements made by the US Middle East peace process coordinator, Dennis Ross, in which he held Syria responsible for the failure of the Geneva summit as "Israeli words."
