Levy and Indyk meet on Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 3/31/2000

Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy has stressed that Israel's decision to withdraw from south Lebanon will be carried out until July, describing news on earlier implementation of this decision as mere predictions.

Israeli Radio quoted Levy as saying during his meeting on Wednesday with the US ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, that preparations to pull out of south Lebanon have been materialized, adding that Israel will welcome every country ready to send peacekeeping forces to south Lebanon following the implementation of the withdrawal.

Levy stressed that Israel will repel any aggression if different sides try to violate Israel's security.

For his part Indyk said, replying a question, that the US prefers for the withdrawal to be made in the course of a framework agreement, noting that such an agreement will be to the benefit of all sides.

Indyk indicated that the US position states the importance of Israel's implementation of UN resolution 425 and withdrawal from Lebanon, according to which the Lebanese government will spread its authority on all Lebanese territories.
