Morocco 2000 exhibition opens in London
Morocco-UK, Economics, 3/30/2000

A two-day exhibition dubbed Morocco 2000 opened in London Wednesday.

The exhibition that was dedicated by Moroccan Minister of Trade, Industry and Handicraft Alami Tazi is displaying ready-to-wear garments, leather products, handicraft items, processed sea products, ceramics, furniture, sporting equipment, telecommunication devices and others.

The exhibition is also shedding light on Morocco's multifaceted culture, tourism assets and investment opportunities.

Tazi made a presentation on the evolution of Moroccan-British trade exchanges as well as on the reforms initiated in Morocco to liberalize foreign trade and modernize the financial, fiscal, customs and banking systems. He also spoke of the administrative reform and the privatization program.

Trade exchanges between Morocco and Great Britain are on the rise and went up from $180 million in 1985 to $1.21 billion in 1999. The trade balance is currently showing a surplus to the advantage of Morocco which has become Great Britain's first North African trade partner.

The event is financed by a British company and is co-organized by the Moroccan center for exports promotion and the British chamber of commerce of Casablanca.

Tazi, who is visiting London at the head of a delegation of industrialists, dedicated on Monday the Moroccan textile and garments exhibition VETMA and held meetings in London with heads of several British enterprises.

Talks covered investment opportunities existing in Morocco and means to upgrade partnership and joint ventures between the two countries' economic operators.
