Morocco, Business, 3/30/2000
The Spanish - Portuguese - Moroccan consortium "Medi-Telecom" activated Wednesday in Morocco its "Meditel" GSM network, eight months after it bought the license $1.08 billion from the Moroccan state.
A group release said, the GSM network second in rank after "Maroc - Telecom" is made up of two main switchboards in Casablanca and Rabat and 400 relays to secure already access to 40% of the population.
The network, which has already attracted $120 million investments, will grow twofold by the end of the year and help reach 60% of the population by the summer and 75% by early next year.
Operating a second network in the country has sparked competition triggering lower prices and package offers.
