Moussa accentuates Egypt's full support for Syrian stance
Egypt, Politics, 3/30/2000

"Egypt is pressing on with its efforts to propel the Mideast peace process and to get it out of the present impasse", Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa told Monte Carlo Radio Wednesday.

"It is in the interest of all Arabs that a just and comprehensive peace is achieved, but a peace that ensures the restoration of the Syrian and Lebanese territories occupied by Israel and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital", he clarified.

Moussa stressed in this respect Egypt's full backing of the Syrian stance which calls for an Israeli withdrawal from the lands it occupied in 1967 and the return of all the Golan to the June 4 borders.

Egypt was hopeful that Sunday's Geneva Summit between US President Bill Clinton and his Syrian counterpart Hafez Al Assad would have made progress on the Syrian track with Israel.

Moussa quoted his Syrian counterpart Farouk al Shara as saying that Geneva summit neither succeeded nor failed and that this was not the end of the road.

Egypt seeks to maintain continuation of the peacemaking on all tracks, he said affirming the need to have matters proceed well and that the chance still stands to make a progress.
