Jordanian lawyers union demands boycott of international parliamentary conference due to Israel
Jordan, Politics, 3/28/2000
The Jordanian lawyers syndicate called yesterday for boycotting the international parliamentary conference to be held in Amman at the end of April, due to the participation of a delegation from the Israeli Knesset in the conference.
The union urged members of the Jordanian deputy's council to stand by causes of the Arab states and to confront the invitation addressed to the Israeli delegation to participate in works of the conference.
Saleh El-Armouti, chief of the lawyers union, said in a written note that Israeli participation in a conference held in Jordan contradicts the beliefs of the Jordanian people and the Arab states, especially with the continuing occupation of Arab lands.
El-Armouti asserted that he will present members of his syndicate from among the parliament deputies who participate in the conference to the disciplinary councils, saying their participation in the conference violates the resolutions of the general assembly of the union which refuses all forms of normalization with Israel.
