Arafat and the Syrian track

AFP said on Monday that Palestinian President Yasser Arafat spoke on Monday about progress in peace negotiations between Syria and Israel, despite the failure of the US-Syrian summit which was held on Sunday in Geneva.
Arafat, whose statements were conveyed by the speaker of the German Parliament, added that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad wants to make these negotiations a success.
The German official continued that Arafat called on the European Union to take part in the Middle East peace negotiations.
