Egyptian exports to US, promoted

President Hosni Mubarak conferred late Sunday with US Secretary of Commerce, William Daley.

In press statements following the meeting, Daley said that talks tackled economic relations, promoting numbers of joint ventures and exploring potential investment opportunities in Egypt.

Daley described Mubarak's visit to North Virginia, where a number of firms operating in hi-tech, as very important and proves how Egypt is keen on attracting investments in the field of know-how and making good utilization of information technology (IT) to promote Egyptian economy.

He added that firms are anxious to make use of the current developments in Egyptian economy to create a more investment-friendly atmosphere.

He voiced hope that Mubarak's visit would boost bilateral economic and technological cooperation.

Daley said that he had visited Egypt in October and voiced satisfaction over statements made by Mubarak and Senior Officials on economic developments there.

"The meeting also tackled promoting Egyptian exports to the US market," said Daley. He added that Egyptian exporters should be aware of the tough competition in the US market.

Asked whether more measures for opening the US market for Egyptian exports were discussed, Daley said Egyptian companies will be encouraged to operate in the US market and US companies will be encouraged to establish more investment projects in Egypt.

Asked by MENA on Egypt's investment atmosphere, Daley described it as largely improving and that there is a growing interest in the Egyptian market.
