Economic growth in Yemen

Yemen's minister of planning and development, Ahmad Muhammad Soufan, has stated that Yemen's economy scored a growth estimated at 4.5% in 1999 as a result of the economic reforms the country started in 1995. He expected growth to reach some 5.5% this year.
In a press statement Soufan added that the growth rate in 1999 represents an improvement in comparison with the general growth average for 1998, which was 3.5%.
He said the inflation rate reached 4% in 1999 in comparison to 10% in 1998, noting the possibility of having a recession in the inflation rate to 2% by the end of this year.
