Ebeid hails Mubarak's Washington visit as historic

Prime Minister Atef Ebeid on Friday hailed as "historic and timely" President Hosni Mubarak's visit to the US. "The visit coincides with progress in the Middle East peace process and figures as culmination of President Mubarak's announced and unannounced endeavors as well as his tireless efforts to safeguard legitimate rights," Ebeid added.

Speaking to reporters, Ebeid asserted that President Mubarak's Washington visit will herald new prospects of technological cooperation with the US.

The visit aims at upgrading bilateral cooperation in the field of administrative development as well as benefiting from US expertise in preparing future readerships and cadres, he remarked. Egypt is looking forward to promoting its exports to the US market, the biggest in the world," said the Premier.

President Mubarak's talks in the US are to take up the political situation, of peace and prospect cooperation in political, economic, administrative, technological and information fields," he added.

Regarding reports on setting up a holding company for small scale industries and seek contribution by the private sector, Ebeid said he will answer Saturday interpolation posed to him by the People's Assembly members on means, resources and timetables for implementing the programs put forward in the government's policy statement.

He noted that L.E. 2.40 billion were appropriated in the state budget to carry out some programs.

Ebeid voiced content over interpolation, adding "no one is above accountability, the government benefits from criticism rather than praise within the climate of democracy, re-entrenched by President Hosni Mubarak.
