Arafat to visit Germany
Palestine-Germany, Politics, 3/25/2000
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Monday starts an official visit to Germany. The visit will last for two days.
The advisor to Arafat, Nabil Abu Rudinah, told AFP on Thursday evening that Arafat will discuss during his visit with the German leaders the Palestinian- Israeli negotiations and recent political developments of the Middle East peace process and means of boosting them.
Abu Rudinah added that Arafat and the German leaders will also discuss the German and European role in the peace process and the German aids to the Palestinian people especially on the economic level.
Abu Rudinah underlined the importance of the German role in the Middle East peace process, saying that Germany is among the first countries which back the legitimate Palestinian rights.
Abu Rudinah expressed his appreciation for the backing given by Germany to the Palestinian government, especially in the area of economic development. He also expressed appreciation for the Berlin declaration, which marks an advanced phase of European recognition of the Palestinian rights.
Arafat's visit to Germany coincides with the first anniversary of Berlin's declaration in which the EU expressed the right of the Palestinians to self-determination including the declaration of a Palestinian state.
