Report: Political future in Iraq will be for new bloods
Iraq, Politics, 3/25/2000
The London based al-Sharq al-Awsat (Middle East) daily issued on Friday said that Odai Saddam Hussein, the oldest son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, said that the political future of Iraq will be for the new blood which he said will "occupy key leading positions in the state."
In a statement during a meeting of the Journalist Union, Odai added that he is confident he will get the confidence of voters in his electoral area, a matter which will avail him to win a seat at the Iraqi National Council, whose elections will be held next Monday.
Odai Saddam Hussein added that he will bring in a braver political outlook to the parliament. He added that he does not think of being a speaker for the parliament in case he wins in the elections, but he might accept that in certain circumstances.
Odai also spoke about his determination to raise the ceiling of freedoms in all Iraqi media, not only in the papers he owned. He asserted that he is ready to carry out any orders instructed to him by the president (his father) to assume any high-ranking political post or responsibility, adding that following the elections of the National Council there will be important political changes, to be led by young leaders.
