Al-Assad gets a message of support from Chirac on Geneva summit

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on Friday evening received a message from French President Jacques Chirac on the Sunday summit in Geneva between President al-Assad and US President Bill Clinton and on relations of friendship and cooperation between Syria and France.

The message of the French president stressed backing for Syria's strategic option to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East that provides for restoring all rights to Syria and Lebanon to their territories in line with UN resolutions 242 and 425.

President Chirac added in his message that if an accord on a comprehensive peace is reached, France is prepared to take part in the security arrangements connected with the Golan and south Lebanon.
