Strategy of electricity and energy until the year 2010, reviewed

President Hosni Mubarak reviewed last week the strategy of the sector of power and energy until the year 2010.
Mubarak stressed the importance of providing Egypt's needs of electricity at least costs and highest quality by implementing big projects according to timetables on three stages: The first ends in the year 2004, the second in 2006 and the third in 2010.
In this way the needs of Egypt and development projects of electricity would be secured.
Mubarak further called for implementing the state plan for securing better utilization of energy resources along with maintaining environment against pollution.
Emerging from the meeting, Minister of Information Safwat al -Sherif told reporters that the President focused on the need to provide Egypt with its electricity needs at the lowest costs and highest quality, raise the efficiency of the infrastructure and carry out the government's plan on adding sources of renewable energy.
"Mubarak also underscored the importance of the local production of electric appliances to help create national industry, provide job opportunities and update peaceful uses of atomic energy and improve the service of the electricity sector," Sherif said.
"Mubarak reviewed the strategies of Egypt's electricity and energy sector until the year 2010," Sherif added.
"Mubarak stressed the importance of a solid state to provide future generations with all the potentials of development and the ability to face the requirements of this age," Sherif said.
Electricity is a key nerve in the infrastructure," Sherif stressed. "Mubarak gave instructions to cover Egypt's electricity needs, taking into consideration the rates of development growth," he said.
"Mubarak spoke of the best investment of sources of all types of energy and the importance of using natural energy, so abundant in Egypt, that will at the same time protect the environment from pollution," he added.
"The President's directives also included the greater use of sources of renewable energy and to give priority to the linking of the electricity network with the Mashreq, Maghreb and African networks," Sherif said.
Minister of Electricity and Energy Aly El-Saeidy reviewed the achievements accomplishes by the electricity and energy sector in the past years, indicating that electricity capacity rose from 18 billion Kwh in 1981 to 102 billion kwh per capita share of electric power doubles three times every year.
El-Saeidy summarized the plan for the establishment of new power generating stations, expanding the unified grid and control systems as well as establishing power generating stations under BOT system for financing electricity projects.
"Power generating stations which are currently under reconstruction would enter service in 2004 and would produce 23.6 billion kwh at investment costs of LE 7140 million," El-Saeidy said.
El-Saiedy indicated that the capacity, which must enter the unified grid from the year 2004 to 2006 is 16.5 billion kwh and costs LE 5425 million.
