Israel attack Lebanese civilians
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 3/23/2000

A 55-year old Lebanese taxi driver, Ali Haidar, suffered a severe head injury and another civilian was slightly hurt by machine-gun fire coming from the Israeli zone near the site of an explosion that hit the occupied part of south Lebanon on Wednesday. A Lebanese soldier was also wounded in retaliatory shelling from the Israeli-controlled side of the south.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance on Wednesday attacked a pro-Israeli militia force which was making fortifications in the position of Siar Azour inside the occupied part of south Lebanon.

In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said a Lebanese resistance group rocketed and machine-gunned the force, which was directly hit.

The Israeli occupation forces bombarded a number of villages in the western sector of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli heavy artillery shelled the towns of al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoune, Zibqin, Kafra, Yater, Eita al-Jabal, al-Ezizeh. The bombardment coincided with heavy machine-gun fire by the Israeli forces against roads leading to those towns, the Lebanese security sources added.

The Lebanese sources continued that the Israeli warplanes carried out mock and provocative raids at low altitudes over large areas of south Lebanon.

The raiding planes were fired on by the anti-aircraft guns of the Lebanese army and resistance, the sources continued.

Earlier in the day, the resistance carried out several operations against Israeli and pro-Israeli positions inside the occupied strip of south Lebanon.

Two SLA militiamen were wounded by a bomb in the east of the occupied part of south Lebanon opposite the village of Kafer Tabnit.

The militia source said one man in the SLA patrol was seriously injured and was evacuated to Israel.

A Lebanese security source said the Lebanese soldier was wounded when a shell fired from the near the site of Hizbullah attack landed near his house in Kafer Tibnit, east of Nabatiyah.

The bombing raised SLA casualties this year to 15 dead and 17 wounded, while two Lebanese soldiers have been wounded, thirty one Lebanese civilians have been injured and two killed.
